About Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Westonbirt was founded in 1829 by the Victorian landowner Robert Stayner Holford, and extended by his son George Holford. After George's death in 1926 it passed to his nephew, the 4th Earl of Morley, and in 1956 it was taken on by the Forestry Commission. It is now run by Forestry England.

Today the arboretum covers about 600 acres near Tetbury, with around 15,000 trees and shrubs representing some 2,500 types from around the world, linked by 17 miles of paths.
