About Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park
The park was once the Wilmont estate in south Belfast, formed in the mid-18th century and later used for crops and linen bleaching. Wilmont House was completed in 1859. The Dixon family took over the estate in the early 20th century, and in 1959 Lady Dixon gave it to the city in memory of her husband, Sir Thomas Dixon, a former High Sheriff of Belfast.
Today the park covers more than 128 acres of meadows, copses, woodland and gardens, and it is a starting point for exploring the Lagan Valley Regional Park. It has held Green Flag awards for many years.
