About RHS Garden Rosemoor
The Rosemoor estate, in the Torridge valley about a mile from Great Torrington, passed in 1931 to Lady Anne Palmer, later Lady Anne Berry. She began making a garden of around eight acres in 1959 and opened it to the public in 1967.
In 1988 she gave the garden, together with additional land, to the Royal Horticultural Society. The RHS has since expanded it to 65 acres, surrounded by more than 100 acres of woodland, with the River Torridge along its western edge.
What to see
- Rose gardens: around 2,000 rose plants, at their peak in early summer.
- Fruit, vegetable and herb gardens: productive gardens alongside the ornamental areas.
- Arboretum and woodland: a tree collection set within the wider woodland of the estate.
- Alpine house: a glasshouse for alpine plants.
